Felon pleads to lesser charges after shooting woman outside Pontiac apartment complex

A felon accused of shooting a woman last year outside the Newman Court Apartments in Pontiac opted out of a scheduled trial by pleading to charges including a felony added in exchange for dismissal of a more serious felony.

Timothy Suave Williams, 37, pleaded no contest to an added count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and two counts of felony firearm for the April 18, 2025 shooting of a woman he reportedly used to date.

The Oakland Press reported the woman suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Officials said Williams turned himself in to law enforcement six days after the shooting.

The shooting was witnessed by several people including children.

A May 4 hearing before Oakland County Judge Daniel O'Brien took place one day before Williams' trial was to start.

Charge dropped, lesser charge added

The plea deal included dropping a charge of assault with intent to murder and the prosecution no longer seeking enhanced sentencing for habitual offender.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 8. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes. It can also offer liability protection in civil cases.

Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine compared to assault with intent to murder which is punishable by up to life in prison.

Criminal history and bail

Williams' criminal history includes convictions for three armed robberies in Oakland County in 2012. He was sentenced to 11 – 40 years in prison and paroled on Aug. 29, 2023.

Williams is held in the Oakland County Jail with bond set at $250,000. He also has a hold from the Michigan Department of Corrections for parole violation. His parole was to continue until May 26.
