Head-On Collision Leaves Two Drivers Fighting for Their Lives in Dalton Township

A head-on crash on a rural Muskegon County road left two men in critical condition Tuesday after one vehicle crossed the center line and slammed into another.

Michigan State Police responded just before noon on June 16 to a two-vehicle collision on Holton Road near Pilon Road in Dalton Township.

According to state police, a 57-year-old man from Twin Lake was driving northbound in a Chevrolet Express van when he crossed the center line. His van collided head-on with a Ford Transit van traveling southbound. The driver of the Ford was a 49-year-old man from Muskegon.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. News Channel 3 reported that both men were listed in critical condition.

"Troopers say man from Twin Lake, Mich., 57, was driving north on Holton Road when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with another driver, 49, of Muskegon. Both drivers were critically injured in the crash and were taken to the hospital for treatment," according to Michigan State Police.

Holton Road was closed for approximately three hours while investigators processed the scene and crews worked to clear the wreckage. The road reopened to traffic just after 3 p.m., according to state police.

Investigation Continues

The crash remains under investigation. Michigan State Police have not released details about whether weather, road conditions, or driver error played a role in the collision.

The crash site sits just over four miles southwest of Twin Lake and over seven miles northeast of Muskegon.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes during the closure.

A Dangerous Stretch

Holton Road is a two-lane rural highway that connects communities across Muskegon County. State police did not immediately comment on crash history along the corridor.
