A life sentence closes one chapter. The co-defendant's case lingers.

A 28-year-old Flint man was sentenced to life in prison on July 2 for the shooting death of a man whose body and burned-out car were discovered in Conway Township last year.

Aaron Aydelotte received the sentence from Livingston County Circuit Court Judge Matthew McGivney. Aydelotte was sentenced as a fourth-time habitual offender, according to court records. He received credit for 476 days already served. A defense motion to vacate the conviction and sentencing was denied, according to the same records.

Aydelotte's jury trial in Livingston County Circuit Court got underway back in April and lasted for nine days. A jury returned its guilty verdict on two counts of homicide — murder — 1st degree premeditated on April 23rd.

The details come from reporting by WHMI 93.5 and the Livingston Daily.

The investigation begins with a vehicle fire

The case started on the morning of Saturday, March 8, 2025. Livingston County Sheriff's deputies were called to a vehicle fire on Sherwood Road around 8 a.m. The vehicle was a 2000 Toyota Camry. The fire appeared to have been intentionally set, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

About two hours later, deputies responded to a death investigation on Robb Road. The victim was identified as a 25-year-old man from Flint and the owner of the burned Camry. The Sheriff's Office said the victim was shot with a firearm.

Co-defendant faces separate proceedings

Marqwevell Cummings, 25, also of Flint, was charged alongside Aydelotte in the case. Cummings faces a charge of homicide — open murder — statutory short form.

A final settlement conference in Cummings' case is set for August, according to WHMI. Both Aydelotte and Cummings have been held in the Livingston County Jail on $1 million cash or surety bonds since their arrests.

What happens next

Aydelotte's life sentence concludes the legal proceedings against him. Cummings' case remains active as his defense and prosecutors work toward resolution ahead of the August conference.
