Fugitive Wanted On Drug Charges Arrested At Kalamazoo Hotel

A fugitive wanted on drug-related warrants was taken into custody in Kalamazoo on Thursday after detectives tracked him to a hotel on Seneca Lane.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office said the arrest happened just after 11 a.m. when detectives from the Van Buren County Narcotics Unit received information on the whereabouts of a wanted fugitive from a drug case in Kalamazoo County.

The suspect's vehicle was located at the Stay Bridge Suites hotel on Seneca Lane in Kalamazoo. Detectives from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office surveilled the hotel until a visual identification was made.

Once the suspect was seen, he was taken into custody on warrants and lodged at the Van Buren County Jail. Drug paraphernalia that was located on the suspect was turned over to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office for possible charges.

His warrants include:

  • Van Buren County - Felony for Delivery of Methamphetamine
  • Kalamazoo County - Misdemeanor for Failure to Appear
  • Portage Dept of Public Safety - Misdemeanor for Failure to Appear

The suspect was identified as Bruce Wayne Smith Jr., who has an alias of Batman, according to VBCSO officials.

Bruce Wayne Smith Jr. was arrested on multiple warrants on May 14, 2026 in Kalamazoo.
