# Kalamazoo County Jail Under Investigation Over Lead and Copper in Water

The Kalamazoo County Jail is under investigation after water testing revealed elevated levels of lead and copper in some fixtures at the facility.

Kalamazoo County Government officials are working with health authorities to determine the full scope of the plumbing issue and the potential impact on residents and staff who use the jail's water system.

Water Testing Reveals Concerns

After an investigation in February, health officials discovered that one cafeteria kitchenette sink not used for food preparation showed slightly elevated levels of lead.

Testing in March and April found elevated copper levels in some fixtures across the facility, but results varied by location. Although flushing and response efforts showed improvement, elevated copper levels were still identified.
