The Muskegon Lumberjacks released their 62-game 2026-27 regular-season schedule on June 23, and the calendar signals a clear message. The defending Eastern Conference champions are not rebuilding. They are reloading.
The schedule includes a January rematch against the Sioux Falls Stampede, the team Muskegon faced in the Clark Cup Final last season. That pairing arrives on January 29-30 in back-to-back games. It offers the earliest test of whether Muskegon can match the standard set by the West's best.
Banner night to open the season
The Lumberjacks will raise their 2026 Eastern Conference championship banner before their home opener at Trinity Health Arena. The home opener is set for September 25-26 against the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Under-18 Team.
Muskegon earned that banner on May 11, 2026, with a 6-2 Game 5 victory over Madison in the Eastern Conference Finals. The club then advanced to a second straight Clark Cup Final.
Fall Classic in Chicago starts the year
The season opens at the 11th annual USHL Fall Classic in Chicago from September 16-20. The event runs at Blackhawks Ice Center, the training home of the Chicago Blackhawks. Each of the 16 USHL teams plays two games there.
The USHL is marking its 25th season as USA Hockey's only Tier-I junior league. All 16 teams play a 62-game cross-conference schedule.
Key dates on the calendar
The schedule gives Muskegon several pressure points throughout the year:
- December 3-4: The Lumberjacks return to Tim Hortons Iceplex in New York for the American Cup, their first appearance there since the 2023-24 season. They will face Youngstown.
- December 31: The Chicago Steel visit Trinity Health Arena on New Year's Eve.
- January 29-30: The Sioux Falls Stampede rematch at home.
- April 3, 2027: The regular season ends with every USHL team playing on the same night. The Chicago Steel will close their inaugural season at USG Arena against Muskegon in Chicago.
Western Conference grind
The schedule includes four Western Conference opponents visiting Muskegon during the season. The Lumberjacks will play every Western Conference team on the road as well. That travel-heavy setup often separates contenders from pretenders by March, according to league observers.
The 2026-27 campaign is the 25th season of the USHL as USA Hockey's only Tier-I junior league. All 16 teams will again play a 62-game cross-conference schedule.
"The shape of it says as much about their ambition as any roster move could," according to coverage of the schedule release.
The Lumberjacks will face the full weight of a league trying to knock off a defending conference champion. The January rematch with Sioux Falls will tell early whether Muskegon is still the team to beat.
