A Traverse City woman faces multiple charges after police say she attempted to smuggle stolen wine into a facility by hiding it in her body cavity.
The incident happened over the weekend on the 600 block of West Front Street in Traverse City.
Police said the 48-year-old woman was caught drinking a bottle of alcohol inside the store around 9 a.m. She was brought to Munson Medical Center for treatment.
The next day, police said the woman went back to the same store and allegedly took a bottle of Chardonnay. Employees later stopped her but could not find the bottle of wine.
Police arrested the woman and found the bottle of wine during a cavity search.
The woman is being charged with two counts of retail fraud, one count of smuggling and one charge of trespassing.
The story comes as Traverse City police continue to monitor retail theft and smuggling attempts in the area.
