Driver fled scene as pedestrian crossed street in Pontiac

A 60-year-old Pontiac man died after being struck by two SUVs on Sunday night. The Oakland County Sheriff's Department said the victim was crossing a street when he was hit and dragged for about a half mile before his body was found.

Deputies are seeking information from the public to identify the drivers involved in the incident.

Victim struck while crossing at crosswalk

The crash occurred about 11:41 p.m. Sunday near Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and Featherstone Street in Pontiac. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the victim was crossing Featherstone at a crosswalk when he was struck the first time by an SUV. The driver appeared to pull off the road but did not report the crash.

A second SUV also struck the man. That vehicle continued driving east on Featherstone and did not report the crash either.

His body was found in the middle of Cameron Avenue just north of Featherstone. First responders arrived to find the man was already dead.

Sheriff calls for public help

"It is hard to fathom that a person would strike another human being with a car and drive off leaving them to die," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

Sheriff Bouchard said deputies would greatly appreciate public help with any information that could identify the individuals involved. A reward is possible if the information leads to the arrest and conviction of the drivers.
